Napster Requirements
- To subscribe to Napster's premium music service, you must be a member of the
MusicSelect. Students in the residence halls are automatically
members because MusicSelect is part of ResNet; other students can join, too. Faculty
and staff can become associate members to get Napster is a discount, but students
get the best deal. Each service year begins on September 1 and ends on August 31,
but you can join at any time during this year.
- You must have a computer system with the minimum system requirements described below.
Minimum System Requirements
- Operating System: Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
- Processor: Pentium-class CPU equivalent or better.
- Hard Drive: Approximately 13 MB for Napster, 18 MB for Windows Media. Player if not already installed, adequate space to store purchased and downloaded tracks.
- Monitor: Napster can be viewed on a monitor with a screen resolution of 800x600 or greater.
- Sound Card: Sound Card and speakers.
- Browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.01 or higher. IE 5.5 requires a service pack 1 or higher (IE 6.0 is recommended).
- Digital Music Player: Windows Media Player 7.1 or higher (Windows Media Player is recommended as it improves streaming quality and reduces buffering times.)
- Internet Connection: Active Internet connection (broadband/128+ kbps is recommended).
- USB Port: A USB 2.0 port is recommended if you are connecting a portable device, as it provides maximum transfer rates.
- The Napster client (see the Get Started page).
Optional
- Portable device: Any of the over 75 models of MP3 players compatible with Napster
or the over 25 players compatible with Napster To Go.
- USB 2.0 recommended for transfer to a portable device.
- A CD-R/CD-RW drive compatible with Roxio's CD burner software if you want to burn CDs.
